Mexico City is located in the valley of Mexico, also known as the basin of Mexico. Mexico City has an elevation low of 7217 feet above sea level and is surrounded by mountains and volcanoes that reach 16400 ft in elevation. The city has a population around 8.84 million people with surrounding metropolitain areas having 19.2 million people. Seismic activity is frequent with the city setting on a 17th century lake known as Lake Texcoco. The ground is mostly clay and has sunk 29ft in some areas. The climate is subtropical highland climate. The average temperatures varies between 54 to 61 *F. Low temperatures are between 23 to 28 *F with snow. The area recieves an average of 32.3 inches of rain.
